This workbook provides data and data dictionaries for the SFMTA 2017 Travel Decision Survey.

On behalf of San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), Corey, Canapary & Galanis (CC&G) undertook a Mode Share Survey within the City and County of San Francisco as well as the eight surrounding Bay Area counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, Marin, Santa Clara, Napa, Sonoma and Solano.

The primary goals of this study were to:
• Assess percent mode share for travel in San Francisco for evaluation of the SFMTA Strategic Objective 2.3: Mode Share target of 50% non-private auto travel by FY2018 with a 95% confidence level and MOE +/- 5% or less.
• Evaluate the above statement based on the following parameters: number of trips to, from, and within San Francisco by Bay Area residents. Trips by visitors to the Bay Area and for commercial purposes are not included.
• Provide additional trip details, including trip purpose for each trip in the mode share question series.
• Collect demographic data on the population of Bay Area residents who travel to, from, and within San Francisco.
• Collect data on travel behavior and opinions that support other SFMTA strategy and project evaluation needs.

The survey was conducted as a telephone study among 804 Bay Area residents aged 18 and older. Interviewing was conducted in English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Tagalog. Surveying was conducted via random digit dial (RDD) and cell phone sample.
All survey datasets incorporate respondent weighting based on age and home location; utilize the “weight” field when appropriate in your analysis.

The survey period for this survey is as follows:
2017: February - April 2017

The margin of error is related to sample size (n). For the total sample, the margin of error is 3.4% for a confidence level of 95%. When looking at subsets of the data, such as just the SF population, just the female population, or just the population of people who bicycle, the sample size decreases and the margin of error increases. Below is a guide of the margin of error for different samples sizes. Be cautious in making conclusions based off of small sample sizes.

At the 95% confidence level is:
• n = 804(Total Sample). Margin of error = +/- 3.4%
• n = 400. Margin of error = +/- 4.85%
• n = 100. Margin of error = +/- 9.80%

A. SUMMARY
This dataset contains upcoming and current permitted street and lane closures occurring as a result of the Shared Spaces program, certain special events, and some construction work. This dataset only includes street closures permitted by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA). It doesn’t include street closures managed by other City departments such as Public Works or the Police Department. More details regarding these street closures can be found here.

B. HOW THE DATASET IS CREATED
The data is exported from the Street Closures Salesforce database maintained by the SFMTA ISCOTT unit and the construction closure Access database maintained by SFMTA STP unit. It is converted to the standard Work Zone Data Exchange (WZDx) format per the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT). More information is available from the USDOT's WZDx site and the official WZDx Specification on GitHub.

This report is issued and posted here daily.

D. HOW TO USE THIS DATASET
The WZDx standard allows infrastructure owners and operators make harmonized work zone data available for third party use. The intended audience includes 511 and navigation systems (both for human drivers and automated driving systems). The survey period for this survey is as follows:
2014: October – November 2014

A few questions in TDS 2014 were added after the survey began. In the report, responses that did not answer those questions were excluded from the analysis. The questions that were added late are noted in the TDS 2014 methodology survey instrument.

A. SUMMARY
It is the policy of the San Francisco Department of Public Health to comply with patient/client/resident rights regarding Protected Health Information (PHI) as set forth in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). These guidelines exists to provide guidance only as it relates to the public release of COVID-19 data through the tracker webpages, so that public reporting of de-identified information of residents’ health status, demographic and other characteristics, and geographical information reflect consistent reporting practices and meaningful differences in health outcomes, conditions that impact health, and delivery of services while safeguarding patient/client/resident rights regarding PHI.

COVID-19 related data will be released routinely in a variety of data products related to the tracker, including datasets through SF OpenData. Some data products may include data by county or smaller analysis unit such as ZIP code, neighborhood, or census tract.

The location of buildings, inspections and violations that were issued by the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection (DBI), San Francisco Department of Health (SFDPH), and The San Francisco Fire Department (SFFD) for 1/2008 - 8/2013 for residential buildings in San Francisco. This dataset adheres to the House Facts Data Standard version 1.2 - which is a government open data standard that provides a uniform format for reporting governmental data on the regulation of health and safety laws for residential housing in a machine readable format. The specification links data to the residential building understanding that a single building may have multiple dwelling units and multiple owners.
